Birth Collection
For those who have not experienced or seen a Birthing photography session the 1st images that come to mind are ones that are quite personal and not typically suitable for sharing. This is truly not the case with professional birth photography. Birth Photography is all about capturing that magical moment (as well as those leading up to it) when your little one enters the world. It shows the range of emotions that a couple goes through together on that very important day as well as the love and connection that they have with each other. Having a professional photographer present during your labor and delivery allows both mommy and daddy to focus on the experience without having to worry about missing an important memory or moment to document.Being chosen to capture such an intense and amazing moment in a family’s life is not one to be taken lightly. It is an absolute honor and privilege and an experience that I hope to do again and again!

"Just Born" Sessions
After much anticipation I am now offering “Just Born” photo sessions for new families who want the first precious hours of their baby’s life captured (which can include having the entire labor and delivery documented). Even though we are super passionate about birth photography and highly recommend it to our mamas, we understand that it isn’t for everyone. Whatever your reason for maybe for opting out of a birthing session – finances, or you’re just uncomfortable having your labor/delivery captured – I still want to offer you the chance to get your special memories during this special time of bonding with your baby.
My “Just Born” sessions are held within the first 48 hours of your child’s birth – during daylight hours – at the hospital, birth center, or at home. They are similar in style to our birth photography – unposed and natural. Our goal is to capture you and your baby totally soaking in the first precious moments (meeting siblings or other family members, first bath, breastfeeding etc.) while emotions are high and everything is brand new.
The "Just Born" Session fee is $100 and includes the following:
-1 hour of on location hospital coverage
-25-50 fully retouched images including a mix of black & white and color high res images on a disc.
-full print release
-Facebook sneak peak for you to share with friends and family
Travel fee is not included
(Since these sessions are usually somewhat "planned" I am willing to travel for an additional fee)

So why not just get a newborn session or have the hospital take pictures?
-The hospital photographers will only spend a few minutes taking a handful very posed pictures of your baby – they will not include you or any other family members and will likely not capture the emotion of the event.
-While we may do some “newborn-like” shots, this session is not meant to take the place of a newborn session. There will be no props, lighting, or extensive baby posing. My “Just Born” session is unique in that I will be able to document all of the emotions and interactions with your FRESH baby in a much more laid-back, casual way.
**If you do wish to have an actual newborn session done sometime in the first few weeks of your baby’s life, please contact me through here or one of my other respective sites to check availability.
Birth Session FAQ’s
1.What is birth photography?
- Birth photography is way to capture the first moments of your baby’s arrival as well as you and your partner’s emotions!
2.Why can’t my partner just take photos?
- Your partner can! But by hiring me to take the images for you, it completely frees your partner up to focus on your
other (more important) needs.
3.I’ve hired a midwife/doula/nurse and she says she can be our photographer.
Why would I pay a separate fee to a photographer when they say they can do it?
- At the births I’ve attended as a photographer (and my own too), the midwife/doulas I’ve watched in action are physically assisting the mom in labor. Her skill and expertise is to assist you during labor and delivery. By hiring me to take the photos of the entire scene (including your doula assisting you and your partner) it allows her to fully focus on you.
4.I would like to meet you before hiring you to make sure I am comfortable with you. Is that possible?
- Absolutely! I will not allow you to hire me unless you have met with me and made sure I am a fit for your very intimate
upcoming birth! We will discuss any and all thoughts and concerns you have as well as anything in particular you want me
to focus on and capture.
5.When should I book my session?
– Clients typically book as soon as they have confirmed their pregnancy with their care provider. Because I take only a
limited number of birth clients each month, it ensures that my birth clients are booked for their due month.
6.I don’t want revealing images of me on the internet. Do I have a say in what images you show?
- Yes! As much as I love to use the amazing images in my marketing and portfolio, this is ultimately just for you. I will
not show any image unless you have given me full permission to do so! To date, each of my slideshows have been completely
approved by clients without a single change! I consider my slideshows and images I share to be “grandfather approved!”
7.What exactly do you photograph?
- Each birth is uniquely different. Although I have a checklist of images I’d like to capture, I am essentially there to
document (not pose) what is actually happening. We can discuss more in detail in our initial meeting what you would like
to include.
8.When my labor starts, when should I call you?
– Immediately! Call me as soon as contractions begin or your water breaks, so I have advanced notice. You can call or text me to give me a heads up. This allows me to make sure I can get childcare to my home for my children and tie up anything I am in the middle of. Call me again when you are 3-5cm dilated, or when active labor has begun. If you are getting an induction, give me the date and time in advance. It's always a good idea to let someone other than your partner know to contact me in case they forget to get in touch with me in the happy chaos of early labor
9.Once I’m in labor, when will you come to begin photographing? When do you leave?
- I try to get there when you are between 7-8 centimeters dilated (if you allow exams in labor) to allow sufficient time
to capture you in labor and for me to be there and prepared for the baby’s arrival. Again, each mom/birth is unique and we
will discuss all of the details in our initial meeting.-Unless you’ve purchased additional time, your coverage will begin during active labor (7-8cm dilated) and end 1-2 hours after the birth (not to exceed 4 hours). It’s important to get in touch with us as soon as you think you may be in labor and again when a doctor or midwife confirms active labor to allow us enough time to get to you
10.What if I go into labor in the middle of the night?
- Call me! Even if the contractions are mild, by giving me the notice it helps to ensure I will make it in sufficient
time.
11.What happens if it’s a false labor?
-Get in touch with me as soon as you think you may be in labor, but I will wait for a second call when active labor has been confirmed by a doctor or midwife.
12.What if I give birth prematurely?
-We will be on call for the two weeks before and one week after your due date, but that doesn't mean that if labor starts earlier we won't be able to make it! Give us a call as soon as you know you are in labor.
13.What if you don’t make it to the birth?
- If I am notified once you start labor and am updated throughout early labor and I do not make it at no fault of yours,
you will receive a full refund of any monies minus retainer paid to that date. However, if you do not notify me that your labor has
started and do not call until it is too late for me to arrive in time to capture the birth, the birth session monies paid are non-
refundable. I will still come as soon as possible and begin photographing those first moments after baby has arrived and
stay for a post-delivery session.
14.Do you interact during the birth session?
– Yes and no. It is completely up to the mom in labor. I can be completely quiet and not utter a word or we can have
conversation between contractions! It’s totally up to you!
15.Do you shoot C-sections?
Absolutely. C-sections don't change the beauty of the birth experience. The hours before the c-section, your family's anticipation, and those first moments with your baby in recovery are magical. If the hospital allows us in the operating room we will be there, and if not we will be waiting for you close by.
16.What happens if something goes wrong that we wouldn’t want photographed?
Births are unpredictable, and it's important to us that we respect your wishes. We will work together with you before the birth to lay out a plan for all of the what-ifs (NICU, complications, hospital rules, etc).
17.How far with you travel?
– I will travel up to two hours from Lincolnton, North Carolina. But I am available to travel farther for a travel fee.
18.Do you use a flash?
- At this time, no. I try to make myself as inconspicuous as possible. Without the use of flash, sometimes the images may
have a little grain in them due to the low light situations.
19.Will my images be in black and white or color?
- Typically most of the birth images are edited in black and white. Occasionally there are a few shots that I will edit in
color.
20.How many images can I expect?
-For a standard Hello Baby birth photography package we will deliver a minimum of 75-100 color-corrected images.
21.Is the retainer fee refundable?
- Because of the limited number of birth clients I accept each month, the retainer (and any fees paid to date) is non-
refundable. You may apply the money paid to a Maddox Baby session.
22.Do you offer discounts?
- The only discount I offer is for a birth client who has her partner deployed at the time of birth. I only discount one
of these sessions each month so be sure to book as soon as possible to ensure you have a chance at receiving the discount
if your partner will be deployed at the time of your baby’s birth.
23.Do you offer a payment plan?
- A $200 retainer fee is required to book the month of your due date. You can then pay the balance as you wish (weekly,
monthly, etc.) but the remaining fee must be paid in full by 4 weeks before your due date.
24.Do you offer gift certificates?
- Yes! I can set up a gift registry link on my website with links to purchase gift certificates to be applied towards your
birth session. I can even put a photo of you and your baby bump if you wish!
25.Will I receive any referral credit towards my birth session if I refer a new client to you?
- Yes!! I love referrals! For each new birth client that you send my way (be sure she lets me know that you referred her),
you will receive a $50 credit towards your birth session. There is a $200 maximum referral credit.
- Birth photography is way to capture the first moments of your baby’s arrival as well as you and your partner’s emotions!
